Two Tigers 2nd team All-Ohio
From staff reportsMarietta enjoyed a tremendous degree of success on the soccer pitch this past fall and goalkeeper Chris Stollar and midfielder Maegan Grosel were major factors in the Tigers' and Lady Tigers' run to the district tournament.
The two Marietta players were honored with second team All-Ohio from the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association as a result of their play on the pitch.
For the Marietta boys Stollar is just the 10th player to receive All-Ohio honors in the history of the program and the third goalkeeper.
As a tri-captain with Marietta this past fall Stollar had a 17-2-2 record and posted 10 shutouts, allowing only 18 goals in 21 games.
The Marietta senior netminder had 163 saves and a save percentage of 90.1 percent on the season.
In his career Stollar allowed just 46 goals in 50 games for a 0.92 goals against average, sixth all-time at Marietta High School. Stollar also had 368 saves, good enough for third all-time and 15 shutouts which is second all-time at Marietta.
For the Lady Tigers Grosel was a dominating presence in the middle, playing solid soccer offensively and defensively.
Grosel and teammate Allison Fouss were both in pursuit of former standout Casey Price's team record of 22 goals in a season with Fouss eventually claiming the school mark when she recorded her 23rd goal.
Grosel wasn't quite able to get past the mark of 22 goals but was always a dependable player that would come back into the midfield and win free balls and create opportunities.
She was also one of the rare players who could make the transition from offense back to defense when necessary, often being moved to sweeper when the Lady Tigers had to make defensive adjustments.
Both Grosel and Stollar earned a host of awards at years end with Southeast Ohio Scholastic Coaches Association honors as well as honors from the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League.
Grosel was the SEOAL Player of the Year for the second year in a row and was also the Southeast District Coaches' Player of the Year as well.
The All-Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association list was released in late November.
