Caldwell, Wood County Christian get wins
From staff reportsThe Caldwell Lady Redskins poured on the offense and tightened up the defense in the second quarter only to watch the Beallsville Blue Devils do the same to them in the third quarter.
Caldwell was just a few points better.
The Lady 'Skins held Beallsville to just two points while scoring 17 of their own in the second quarter and overcame Beallsville's 13-3 advantage in the third to post a 50-42 win at Beallsville High School Tuesday night.
Caldwell had a trio of players reach double figures on the evening led by junior Lizzy Nau, who recorded 17 points with most of the damage done at the free throw line.
Nau connected on 9-of-14 attempts from the charity stripe to go with four field goals.
Stacey Mugrage added 12 points on four field goals and 2-of-3 from the free throw line while Jensen Heller had 11 points on five field goals and 1-for-2 from the line.
Beallsville made a game of the contest in the third quarter after trailing 31-17 at the break, but couldn't overtake Caldwell.
Tori Jarrett led the Lady Blue Devils with a strong all-around performance. Jarrett recorded a game high 21 points on five field goals and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line to go with three assists and five steals.
Katie Kinney had eight of Beallsville's 25 rebounds.
The two teams combined to take 39 shots from the free throw line, connecting on 26 of them.
Caldwell was 14-of-21 from the line, or 66 percent, while Beallsville was 12-of-18, also 66 percent.

Teays Valley 50
The Wood County Christian Lady Wildcats overcame a seven point first quarter deficit with a 22 point outburst in the second stanza as they knocked off Teays Valley Christian 60-50 Tuesday night.
Tiffany Cowdery led WCCS in the scoring column as she recorded a game high 27 points.
Cowdery also chipped in eight assists, nine steals and a block to finish just shy of a triple double as the Lady Wildcats opened up their season with a win.
Andi Drane added 15 points for Wood County Christian in the win while Julie Kline had six points and eight rebounds.
Wood County Christian came back from a 13-6 deficit after one quarter of play to lead 28-25 at the break.
WCCS outscored Teays Valley 32-25 in the second half to pull away with the win.
Elizabeth Yoder led Teays Valley with 26 points on 12 field goals while Christa Larue added 11 points in the loss.
All told WCCS had five girls score while Teays Valley received point contributions from six.
Kara Smith had seven, Bethany Brown five for WCCS.

Wood County Christian found its offensive life in the second half as the Wildcats doubled their first half production in the third quarter alone as the WCCS boys knocked off Teays Valley 61-54 Tuesday night.
Jacob Ungar led the charge with 21 points while Curtis Reynolds had 10 for WCCS, which trailed early 11-8 after one quarter and 21-20 at the break.
The Wildcats took the lead in the third quarter when they outscored Teays Valley 21-16 to lead 41-37 after three periods.
WCCS expanded the lead in the fourth when the Wildcats outscored Teays Valley 20-17.
Eric Grubbs added nine points and four assists from his guard slot for Wood County Christian while Raymond Morris had 10 rebounds and three points, all at the free throw line.
