Thanks to all who helped on Frontier’s Career Day
I would like to thank several people who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in Frontier's Career Day Wednesday, Nov. 25. Students in grades seven through 12 listened to eight different presentations throughout the day.
The lineup included Frontier graduates Caleb Courson from the Ohio Highway Patrol; Greg Hutchison, safety consultant ; Gwen Dorman McHenry, veterinarian from River City Pet Hospital; Todd Ruble of Ruble Insurance; Kathy Beaver Stewart, program specialist for the United States Forest Service; Amanda Graham Sutphin from COAD; and Dr. Melissa Thomas, Ohio Public Health. One student commented that "seeing Frontier alumni achieving goals and being successful means that I can, too."
Other speakers included Rachel Deem from EVE; Robert Harris from IBEW 972; Brianna Reese from Marietta Memorial Hospital; Eric Davis, Matt First and David Rose from the Ohio Department of Transportation; Ssgt. Ferlin and Pvt. Miller from the United States Marine Corps;
Sfc. Walsh, Ssg. Mullen and Sgt. Arnold from the United States Army; Awz. Capric from the United States Navy; and Cathy Harper from Washington County Mental Health. In addition, Deb Goins from Educational Talent Search at Washington State Community College led groups of students through the interactive Ohio Career Information System in the computer lab. Carrie Mason from Washington State Community College ran the Reality Store, giving students an idea of how their potential income would be spent each month.
While all the students enjoyed different aspects of the day, there were some common themes in feedback. One student commented that the thing she enjoyed most was "all the people donating time to talk to us," and another student commented that "all the speakers had an impact on me, because they made me think about the jobs they do."
The faculty, staff and students are grateful for the support of alumni and community members in helping shape the future by sharing their experiences!
