BELPRE - First-year Belpre head coach Dave Parsons' squad had no answer for Warren point guard Austin Cunningham Wednesday night as the Warriors remained unbeaten with an 82-67 victory against the Golden Eagles.

Cunningham not only scored a game-high 24 points, but he also led everyone with five assists and as many steals and added five rebounds to boot.

The Warriors of head man Blane Maddox, who improved to 4-0 and play host to Portsmouth on Friday, got solid play throughout the lineup. Grant Venham dropped in 21 points, Brandon Fivecoait had 15 tallies, Clay Ellenwood finished with nine points and eight caroms while Andrew Lang led all rebounders with a dozen.

Belpre recovered from an 18-11 deficit by notching the final seven points of the opening stanza. Tyler Leasure converted a three-point play for part of his team-high 18 counters and after Reggie Sims (11 points) and Erik Waderker (nine points) scored eight seconds apart the game was even after one.

However, Sims soon picked up his third foul and Belpre trailed 24-18 at 5:55 of the second after Jace Knost scored inside from a Lang dish. The Warrior advantage went to a dozen for the first time at 32-20 after Ellenwood dropped in a 14-footer from a Seth Harris assist.

Belpre ended up missing 12-of-14 from the floor in the second and trailed 36-24 at intermission.

Sims, who picked up his fourth foul 49 seconds after halftime and was finished for the game at 2:53 of the third, tried to keep the Golden Eagles in the game by scoring a three-point play. Belpre had it cut to single digits early in the third when Markie Tate, who finished with 12 points, canned a short jumper to make it 42-33.

That deficit continued to grow for the Golden Eagles (3-1) as a driving finger roll by Ellenwood made it 49-35 and the hosts found themselves trailing 55-37 after Fivecoait scored six straight.

A Josh Campbell charity stripe toss got Belpre to within 55-40 after three, but a Venham basket and a three-point play by Ellenwood made it 60-40 with 7:04 remaining.

The Golden Eagles, set to entertain Vinton County on Friday, refused to give up and actually got back into the contest after going on a 13-0 run in a span of 1:40.

A deuce by Waderker from a Pat Slattery assist got things started and Campbell's three-point play ended it. Soon after the two teams shot six foul shots apiece just 1:07 apart and the Warriors were able to take back control of the tilt. The lead increased to 72-57 with 3:08 to go when Venham drove and scored inside on an up-and-under scoop shot.

Belpre, which got seven rebounds and four steals from Channing Parsons, trailed 82-61 before finally snapping a streak of 14 consecutive missed 3-pointers by hitting its final two.
