The Ohio Valley University Alumni Association, with assistance from the university's music department, will host two choral reunions in 2010 as part of the university's Golden 50th Anniversary Celebration.
The alumni chorus is set to perform in 2010 at what has become a homecoming tradition for the university's alumni. The group's concert will again be a featured part of the Homecoming Showcase program at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in the main campus chapel.
Registration and a reunion breakfast for the Golden Anniversary Homecoming celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Stotts Administrative Center lobby.
In addition, the inaugural Ohio Valley University Alumni Chorus Reunion and Retreat will be held June 4 to 6, 2010. Alumni singers from Ohio Valley College, North Christian Junior College and Ohio Valley University will gather on campus for three rehearsal sessions and a live audience concert recording program Saturday, June 5. The alumni chorus will also perform Sunday, June 6, at the Grand Central Church of Christ in Vienna, W.Va.
"We've been talking about a summertime alumni chorus reunion off and on for years," said Dennis Cox, alumni association executive director. "I could not be more pleased that we could do this as part of the Golden Anniversary Celebration."
Periodic alumni choral retreats have been very successful for Christian colleges around the country, he said. Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, hosts a program every five years with hundreds of former chorus members attending. York College in York, Neb., is planning its second such event after having 102 choral alumni on their campus in June 2007.
"This has huge potential for our alumni," Cox said. "We are looking forward to a great weekend reunion."
