Choirs combine for Christmas cantata
The combined choirs of sister churches Faith United Methodist and Norwood United Methodist will present the Christmas cantata "Rise Up! A New Light A-Comin'."
The cantata, which is about sending the light of Christmas into the world, will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at Norwood United Methodist Church on Colegate Drive, Marietta. It will be directed by Michael Dunaway and accompanied by Robin Littleton.
Refreshments provided by the Norwood United Methodist Women will follow in the church's family activities center. There is no charge.

Church hosts pastor from Charleston
Christ the King House of Prayer, an interdenominational community of night and day prayer, will be hosting Chuck Reber, pastor of the Vineyard Church-Charleston, W.Va., at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19.

Community holiday meal offered for free
River City Church of the Nazarene will be hosting a free community holiday meal from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at WinBeri Place Apartments, 623 Virginia St., Marietta.
This meal is being sponsored in part by the following local businesses: Burger King Restaurant of Marietta, Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, McDonald's Restaurant of Marietta, River City Antique Emporium, and Shoney's Restaurant of Marietta. The meal will be first come, first served while supplies last.

Recording artist to give holiday concert
Recording artist Ruthie Dunn will be doing a Christmas concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 20 at Low Gap Church. The church is just off West Virginia 7 at Willyville. Everyone is welcome.
Church plans annual Christmas program
Warren Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. The public is invited to attend.
Christmas activities planned at church
The Marietta Bible Center Church will having special Christmas activities on Sunday, Dec. 20. The children of the church will present a program of singing and Christmas parts. The Marietta Bible College Choir will present a program of Choral numbers. In addition, the String Ensemble will present Christmas carols. Pastor Guiler will preach a Christmas message.
Joe Offenberger will present at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The Marietta Bible College will travel to Salt Fork State Park on Monday for a Christmas fellowship.
During the holidays, the services for the church will be: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23; 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27; and Thursday, Dec. 31, New Year's Eve. The New Year's Eve service will be held instead of the Wednesday service.

Carols, candlelight service planned
Tunnel United Methodist Church will observe Christmas Eve with carols and a candelight service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.
13th Twelfth Night to be celebrated Jan. 8
The 13th Twelfth Night Celebration will be "Green Groweth the Holly," offered by the Valley Renaissance Consort at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at First Unitarian Universalist Church, Third and Putnam streets, Marietta.
The celebration, a program of singing, instrumental music played on copies of period instruments, and appropriate readings, is followed by a feast of traditional Twelfth Night King Cakes and other delights.
Fortunate celebrants may find a favor in their cake and be named Kings for the evening. A voluntary contribution of $5 toward Washington State Community College Foundation can be given, with students and children free.

Candlelight service at church in Devola
Putnam Congregational Church will be having a candlelight service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve with a Christmas message and carols. The church is located at Chamberlain Drive and Masonic Park Road in Devola.
Christmas Cantata at Lawrence Baptist
Lawrence Baptist Church will be presenting the Christmas Cantata, "Light of the World," at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at the church.
The program will also include a presentation by the youth of the church and will end with a service of candle lighting. The public is invited to this special Christmas program. The church is on Ohio 26, 16 miles from Marietta.

Ensemble to present Christmas special
Lighthouse Baptist Church of Vincent Joyful Praise Girls Teen Ensemble will be presenting a Christmas multimedia special, "Light of the World," at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20.
At 8:45 a.m. Sunday, the church will be celebrating Jesus' birthday with birthday cake and coffee. All are welcome.
