Marietta College reaches out to the community
Reaching out
Marietta College and the community have always gone hand in hand with one another. The community and the college interact in many different ways, from events to volunteer programs. Here are some ways the college and the community have interacted through student service.
Make a Difference Day
A nationwide day of neighbors helping neighbors and volunteering efforts for the good of the community. This past fall was the college's fourth year participating and more than 350 students completed more than 25 projects.
Community Service Day
Similar to Make a Difference Day, but is held in the spring and is organized by the McDonough Leadership Program. Projects usually involve volunteer projects at the Mid-Ohio Valley Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, EVE, Inc., and the Boys & Girls Club.
Ely Chapman Center
Marietta College students volunteer at the center to tutor and work with school-age children. The Center is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide enrichment programs for the community at large. McDonough Leadership students usually volunteer at the Center during Make a Difference Day and Community Service Day.
Anderson Hancock Planetarium
The 4,400-square-foot planetarium is located at the corner of Fourth and Butler streets. The planetarium staff have been conducting three to four community viewings a month since May. More than 5,000 visitors have enjoyed one of the many free shows.
