Reno to retire from Red Cross position

Ed Reno, emergency services director for the Washington County Red Cross, will retire today after seven years of service to the community.

Reno can be credited with contracting with 23 shelters throughout the county with trained, on-call volunteers positioned at each site; developing a strong network of emergency agencies to support services provided by the Red Cross; and working with community businesses, schools and agencies for contingency planning when a disaster might occur.

Business After Hours is planned for Jan. 14

The next Business After Hours sponsored by the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Buckeye Hills HVRDD at 1400 Pike St., Marietta.

There will be a gourmet coffee bar. There will also be appetizers, hot chocolate, coffee and door prizes.

Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members or members wanting invoiced.

B2B will meet at Glenwood Jan. 19

Business 2 Business, aka B2B, will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Glenwood Retirement Community, 200 Timberline Drive, Marietta.

The event provides a structured networking referral system that is designed to bring referrals to business owners.

The one-hour meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month at noon. Cost is $60 per year.

Safety Council to meet on Jan. 20

The Mid-Ohio Valley Safety Council will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Marietta Country Club.

Topic for the meeting will be "Preparing For Emergencies." The cost of $12 includes a buffet lunch.

The MOV Safety Council, which meets the third Wednesday of every month, is co-sponsored by the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce and the Bureau of Workers Compensation.
