COLUMBUS - Capital's women's basketball team took charge in the first half, led 38-16 at intermission, and went on to defeat Marietta 69-48 Wednesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest.
The Pioneers (3-17 overall, 1-12 OAC) played without ace scorer Aleisha Guiler (18.6 ppg) who's nursing a foot injury. MC shot only 18 percent the first half.
Capital (14-6, 11-2), in second place in the conference, shot 48 percent the first half. Caitlin Elsass led the Crusaders with a game-high 17 points in the turnover-filled game (21 by MC and 20 by Capital).
Mallory Hoff was top scorer for the Pioneers with 11 points.
Marietta takes on Heidelberg (4-16, 3-10) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ban Johnson Arena. The Berg lost to first place Baldwin-Wallace 61-39 Wednesday night. B-W is 12-1 in the conference.
Wilmington downed Otterbein, Mount Union topped John Carroll 83-80, and Ohio Northern conquered Muskingum 63-47 in other OAC action.
