Church plans paper airplane contest
The First Unitarian Universalist Church in Marietta is having its 16th annual Great Paper Airplane Contest at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at the church.
Contests for all ages will be held for distance, air time and accuracy. Participants can bring their own paper planes to fly or build one at the church.
Cost is a donation of canned goods or money for the Old Man Rivers pantry in Parkersburg.

Group meetings for pet grief recovery
A Pet Grief Recovery Group is meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 2 to 23, at Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta.
The meetings are open to youth and adults who have lost a special pet, even from years ago. There is no charge to attend, but those attending should plan to attend all sessions. Class size is limited.

'Transfiguration' theme of service
"Transfiguration" will be the theme for the 9:30 a.m worship service on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Crown of Life Lutheran Church, Third and Wooster streets, Marietta. Pastor Joel Vogel's sermon text will be Luke 9: 28-36.
A brief fellowship time with light refreshments will follow the morning worship. Sunday school will begin at 11 a.m. with classes for all ages.
The Adult Class, under the direction of Vogel, will discuss the topic, "The Controversy Concerning Good Works," which is based on Scripture and the confession from the Formula of Concord.

Message series on core values to begin
A message series on "Seeking Our Core Values" is being presented each Sunday at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. Pastor Diann O'Bryant will be delivering the messages at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday services.
Message themes will be "Loving" on Feb. 14; "Serving," Feb. 21; "Growing," Feb. 28; "Inviting," March 14; and "Seeking," March 21.
Tickets are available for concert at MHS
The "We Want the World To Hear" tour with Big Daddy Weave and special guests Chris and Conrad is being presented Sunday, March 14, in the Marietta High School auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6 p.m.
The concert is being presented by Dunamis Concerts and P.O.W.E.R. Ministries.
Tickets are $10 each for a group of 10 or more, or $12 for individuals in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets are available at Stoked Coffee in Marietta, and Family Christian and Christian Supply in Parkersburg. Tickets can also be purchased online at itickets.com or by calling 1-800-965-9324.

Valentine's spaghetti dinner planned
A Valentine's spaghetti dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Centenary United Methodist Church on Morris Drive (Washington County 236), just north of Cutler.
Spaghetti, salad and pies will be served. Cost will be a donation, with proceeds to go to the Community Emergency Relief Fund. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Bible College holds prayer conference
Marietta Bible College held its annual Prayer Conference Monday through Friday of this past week.
There were at least 75 preachers from churches in the local area, as well as from eight states, in attendance. This year's 21st conference included 25 messages on prayer.
Myron K. Guiler, pastor of Marietta Bible Center Church, will preach in the church's 10 a.m. morning service on Sunday, Feb. 14. Along with this service, there will be Sunday school for the children at the same time.
Joe Offenberger will preach for the 6 p.m. evening service on Sunday.

Soup and cornbread dinner offered free
A free bean soup and cornbread dinner will be offered to the community from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Norwood United Methodist Church, Colegate Drive and Oakwood Avenue, Marietta.
Tossed salad, cookies and a beverage will accompany the meal, and chili will be offered as an alternative to the bean soup. Anyone may come to the dinner to enjoy a hot meal and Christian fellowship.
The church will be offering a free community dinner the third Friday of every month, with the exception of November when the church offers a Thanksgiving Day dinner instead.
Parking is available behind the church's Family Activity Center off the alley.
Bishop invited to conduct service
Bishop Bruce Ough, resident bishop of the Ohio West Area of the United Methodist Church, will be visiting Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman St., Marietta, on Sunday, March 7, to conduct the 10:30 a.m. service.
A potluck meal will be served after the service to give people an opportunity to meet him.
The bishop is visiting the church at the invitation of the church's Vision Team.
