Trial dates were set Tuesday for two men accused in separate rape cases.
Jeffrey Parker, 45, of 3730 State Route 26, Marietta, and Roy Greathouse, 47, of Pullman, W.Va., each pleaded not guilty to the charges at their Tuesday arraignments before Washington County Common Pleas Judge Ed Lane.
Parker is set to stand trial July 26, and Greathouse is scheduled to be tried Aug. 18. Other than entering not-guilty pleas, the men did not speak during their hearings.
Parker and another man, Martin E. Babics, 52, of 122 Wood St., are accused of the rape of a woman on May 11 at Babics' residence.
Babics has been charged, but his case has not been presented to a grand jury, said Washington County Prosecutor Jim Schneider.
"He entered a (not guilty by reason of insanity plea) in Marietta Municipal Court (shortly after his arrest), and I believe we are still waiting on the results of an examination," he said.
The case has been assigned to Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Rings, who was out of the office Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.
On the single count of first-degree felony rape, Parker is facing up to 10 years in prison. He is being held in the Washington County Jail on $100,000 bond while awaiting trial.
Parker was represented Tuesday by Assistant Washington County Public Defender Shawna Landaker, who requested a reduction in bond.
"I'll consider it, but for now it stays where it is," Lane said.
Police say Parker and Babics were drinking with the victim at Babics' residence when they lured the woman to a bedroom and attacked her.
Police said Babics admitted to performing sex acts on the woman against her will. Babics also allegedly said Parker engaged in sex with the woman against her will. Parker has made no statements to police.
Police said the men used duct tape to repair holes they had torn in the victim's clothes before she left and reported the incident.
In addition to first-degree felony rape, Greathouse is charged with third-degree sexual battery. He faces up to 15 years in prison, if convicted of sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman at a Newport Township residence.
Schneider alleges Greathouse's abuse of the victim began sometime in 2009 and continued through April 2010.
Greathouse remains free while awaiting trial after he posted 10 percent of a $50,000 bond through a commercial bonding company.
