BELPRE - A groundbreaking ceremony for the Marietta Memorial Hospital expansion of the Health Bridge Medical Park will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"This is the start of a project that will literally change the landscape of that area of town," said Mayor Mike Lorentz. "This will be a good thing for not only Belpre, but the entire region."

The expansion will include a 50,000-square-foot, two-story building addition to the medical plaza to house urgent care facilities, an expansion of the current Strecker Cancer Center and physicians' offices.

DeeAnn Gehlauf, senior vice president of business and organization development at Marietta Memorial Hospital, said hospital administrators see the expansion of the Health Bridge campus as an opportunity to better serve the southern part of Washington County and give those living in the outlying areas better access to health care.

The announcement of the expansion was made Nov. 4.
