Northern Ohio man accused of mailing powder to IRS

June 19, 2014
Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) — A suburban Cleveland man indicted on a charge of threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction is suspected of sending the Internal Revenue Service an envelope with white powder along with his tax return and a check.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cleveland says the white powder was not toxic. He didn't specify what the substance was.

Twenty-seven-year-old John Buchak (BOO'-chak) from the suburb of Highland Heights pleaded not guilty Thursday in federal court in Cleveland. He allegedly mailed the envelope to the IRS in Cincinnati on March 31.

Calls to Buchak's attorney were not returned Thursday. Buchak was released on a bond.
