WASHINGTON, Pa. - Four Marietta College pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout and four MC players connected for two hits in a 10-hit attack as the nationally fourth-ranked Pioneers (15-2) routed Washington & Jefferson 10-0 Wednesday.
Austin Blaski (three innings, two hits), winner Logan Lewis (two innings, two hits), Mark Williams (two innings, no hits), and Kyle Lindquist (two innings, no hits) did the moundwork for the Pioneers who open Ohio Conference play Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Baldwin-Wallace (10-5). MC recorded 11 strikeouts, four each by Lewis and Williams, and isssued only one walk.
W&J (4-8) used eight pitchers. John Snyder had a double and single and two RBIs and Jordan Grilliot a double and single for the Pioneers. Tim Saunders and Kirby Becker both singled twice and Saunders, Britt Meador, and Evan Brockmeier drove in two runs apiece.
Snyder doubled home two runs as MC went up 3-0 with a three-run third and Saunders and Meador had two-run singles and Becker an RBI single in a five-run sixth.
