Mid-Ohio Valley Explorers claim 2 of 3

The Mid-Ohio Valley Explorers of the USSSA middle school league played three games last week winning 2 of the 3 contests.

On Wednesday, the Explorers played Parkersburg Catholic and won, 23- 0.

Five pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout with Kyler McElfresh recording the victory.

Devin Leister, Michael Ullman, Corey Hill and Nick Thieman provided the offensive power with a combined 10 hits and 13 RBIs.

On Sunday, the Explorers played a doubleheader at Marietta against St. Marys, (W.Va.) and split.

St. Mary's won a thriller in the opener, 8-7.

In the nightcap, the Explorers rebounds and claimed a 19-3 decision. The winning pitcher in the win was Marietta's Nick Thieman who gave up three hits and only one earned run in six innings while recording six strikeouts.

Offensively, the Explorers were also led by Thieman who enjoyed a two- game performance of six hits in nine at-bats, three runs scored, seven RBIs and three doubles at the plate.

Corey Hill went 4-for-7 with 2 RBIs; Chant Binegar was 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs.

Evan Owens chipped in with four hits and Michael Ullman added a 3-for-6 performance at the plate.

The Explorers' record stands is now 3-2 in league play with both setbacks being by only one run. They were scheduled to play Tuesday against Williamstown but that contest was rained out. Next up will be home at Legion Field in Marietta against visiting Ritchie County (W.Va.) in a 1 p.m. twinbill on Sunday.
