Free meals at Methodist church

Free meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 on the first Friday of each month in the church fellowship hall at Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St. Everyone is welcome.

New summer hours for Beverly church

There will be new summer Sunday hours at Beverly United Methodist Church starting June 5 and ending Aug. 28. Morning worship will begin at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday School will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Norwood church to hold rummage sale

Norwood United Methodist Church will hold a huge rummage sale and lunch on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4. The rummage sale will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Items include clothing, household items, toys, games, etc. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The menu includes choice of chicken and noodles or sloppy joes with chips, each with a beverage for $3. Proceeds to benefit the church and its upkeep.

Bible study grads to be recognized

Tunnel United Methodist Church will be recognizing graduates of Disciple Bible Study (otherwise known as Disciple I) during the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 29. Pastor Richard Thomas will present Disciple pins to the eight members of the class with Brenda Adams bringing the morning message.

Strawberry Festival set for June 16

First Presbyterian Church, corner of Fourth and Wooster streets, will hold an annual Strawberry Festival and Dessert Potluck at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 16, in the church fellowship hall.

Attendees are to enter the Wooster Street entrance (handicap accessible), and bring strawberries or other dessert if desired.

Big Church Day Out is set for June 5

Sunday morning, June 5, several area churches are joining together for a combined community service, "Big Church Day Out." The service, patterned after a similar event in England, will be held at the VFW Park, 5108 Pike St. in Marietta. It will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a cookout at noon.

Special guest Tom Demaree will be speaking. Demaree has prayer walked across America and in 2007, he joined many local pastors and prayer walked 60 miles around the Mid-Ohio Valley as well as speaking in four area churches of various denominations. All area churches are invited.

Demaree, who lives in Nashville, is a musician/singer and recording artist. His ministry is called Pentecost Walk and can be found on the web at www.pentecostwalk.org.

Churches not able to attend the service are still invited to participate in the picnic. Parking is available on site.

Joe Offenberger will preach the 10 a.m. May 29 service at Marietta Bible Center Church, on Ohio 60, between Marietta and Devola. In addition to his message, there will be activities in observance of Memorial Day. Evangelist Jimmy Nichols will be preaching at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Vacation Bible School will be from June 6 through 10. The children of the community are invited to attend.

Christian vocal group to perform

Mercy's Well a rising, young Christian vocal group, will perform at 6 p.m. May 22 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1710 23rd St., Parkersburg.

This trio (Brad Strider, Greg Gainer and Jon Azzarello) was organized in 1998 and encompasses a variety of musical genres, without compromising the gospel message. Everyone is welcome.
