Two people were killed Thursday afternoon in a traffic accident on U.S. 33 in Athens County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. near Nelsonville when a car pulled into the path of another car driven by Stephen Snider, 63, of Logan, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Larry Jarvis, 75, of Logan, and Donald Stepleton, 79, of Pickerington, Ohio, passengers in Snider's 2003 Pontiac Montana, were killed, the patrol said. Snider and another passenger, William Rose, 64, New Straitsville, Ohio, were taken to Doctor's Hospital and O'Blenness Hospital, respectively, with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, Lacey Warren, 17, of Nelsonville, who pulled from New Floodwood Road onto Route 33, crossing into Snider's path, and a passenger, Shawn Detwiler, 18, of Nelsonville, were taken to Doctor's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the patrol said.
Drugs and alcohol use are not suspected, the patrol said. No citations have been issued but the investigation is continuing.
