Economics professor to speak at economic roundtable meeting

Dr. Sean Masaki Flynn, assistant professor of economics at Scripps College in Claremont, Calif., is the next speaker for the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley this fall.

He will speak during the ERT's luncheon on Monday, Oct. 17, at the Marietta Country Club.

Flynn's talk is on "How Singapore delivers the best medical care in the world while spending 80 percent less than we do!"

Flynn is the author of the best-seller "Economics for Dummies," which has now been translated into seven languages, as well as the co-author, along with Campbell McConnell and Stanley Brue, of the world's best-selling college economics textbook, "Economics: Principles, Problems, and Policies." This book is also the world's best selling college textbook of any subject.

An avid martial artist, Flynn is a former Aikido national champion and has coached five of his students to U.S. national aikido titles. Flynn's research specialties are behavioral economics and behavioral finance, with a focus on irrational investors.

A recurring commentator on FOX Business, ABC News, and NPR, Flynn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in Economics from California-Berkeley, where he completed his dissertation under the supervision of 2001 Nobel Laureate George Akerlof.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a group of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues.

The ERT's speaker series is open to its members only. The ERT's membership is open to all interested individuals at $35 a year.
