Documentary on fracking Tuesday

A showing of the documentary "Split Estate," a film about oiland gas fracking in Colorado, will be at 7 p.m.Tuesday at the Unitarian Church, 232 Third St., Marietta, The showing is sponsored by the Southeastern Ohio Fracking Interest Group. Admissin is free and open to the public.

Township's trustees to meet on Thursday

The regular monthly meeting of the Independence Township trustees will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the townhouse on Upper Archers Fork Road.

Church to hold steak dinner as a fundraiser

The New Matamoras United Methodist Church will hold a baked steak dinner as a fundraiser to raise money for a new annex roof from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Carroll Senior Center.

The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and younger. The meal is eat-in or carryout.

Motor vehicle safety inspections planned

Officers with the Ohio Highway Patrol and New Matamoras Police Department will be conducting a motor vehicle safety inspection from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Park Avenue and along Ohio 7 in the village.

Vehicles will be randomly selected for the inspection and no citations will be issued. Tires, windshields and other safety equipment, including child safety seats will be checked.

Individuals with questions about child safety seat requirements or how to properly install one are encouraged to pull into the check stations.

Craft show will be at community building

There will be a craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Lower Salem Community Building. A Mexican taco bar lunch will be available. Crafters can reserve spaces for $10 by calling 585-2747.

Items being collected for coat giveaway

The Little Hocking United Methodist Church will hold its eighth annual coat giveaway in November.

Members are collecting coats, mittens and gloves, hats and scarves, warm clothing (sweaters, sweatshirts, etc) and boots at:

Stahl's Nursery, Ohio 50, Little Hocking.

Ed Hetzer's State Farm Office, 1101 Washington Blvd., Belpre.
