Stonewall nets top advertising award

Stonewall Marketing, a full-service marketing firm in Marietta, recently earned top honors during the West Virginia Tourism conference on Sept. 11 to 14 at Ogleby Resort in Wheeling, W.Va.

The firm's advertising campaign "Land of Adventure" for the Southern West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau won high marks and accolades statewide from industry professionals. The campaign was awarded "Best Overall Advertising Campaign" during the Stars of the Industry gala banquet on Sept. 12.

The annual award recognizes the most imaginative and innovative advertising campaign via use of print, broadcast and online media outlets.

Stonewall Marketing Account Direct Buddy Butler said, "The Southern West Virginia CVB has continually been ahead of the curve in their marketing efforts. Their team does an incredible job implementing new technologies and developing strategic partnerships. This award is well-earned and reflects their commitment to doing the best job possible in bringing visitors to Southern West Virginia."

Ohio Valley U. hires VP for advancement

VIENNA, W.Va. - A veteran businesswoman and communication executive, Susie Bullock has been hired as Ohio Valley University's vice president for advancement.

"We believe that Dr. Bullock is the perfect individual to lead the University's broad-based advancement strategy moving forward," Ohio Valley University President Dr. Harold Shank said. "She has more than 25 years of outstanding executive leadership and communication experience that will be essential in helping to grow and sustain the University for future generations."

Bullock will report directly to the university's president and is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and coordination of an effective and integrated advancement program. She will oversee OVU's annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, grants, church relations, alumni and marketing/communication initiatives.

"I'm looking forward to building on the same vision and great mission that OVU's founding leadership established," said Bullock.

Bullock earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University, master's degree from the University of Maryland, and doctoral degrees from Texas A&M and Texas Tech universities. With her formal education in agricultural communications, Bullock has held various communications management posts, including director of member and public relations for the United Farm Industries cooperative in her hometown of Plainview, Texas. Upon leaving Plainview, she served as extension media specialist at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, then moved on to Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers in Baltimore, Maryland, as director of member relations. She was then hired by the Farm Credit Bank (FCB) of Texas in Houston and Austin, where she became assistant vice president of communications.

For the past 22 years Bullock has managed a communications consulting business and raised two children with her husband, Dr. Jim Bullock, OVU's vice president for academic affairs. From 1990-2008, Bullock also served as executive director of the Cooperative Communicators Association, a professional development organization with 320 communicators representing cooperatives of all types through the United States, Canada and England.

She is actively involved in a number of community and church related organizations.
