PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Sheriff's Office is awaiting results from the state medical examiner for clues into a fatal weekend automobile accident involving a Washington County woman.
Wood County Sheriff's officials did not release the victim's name Monday, but two independent sources confirmed the identity of the deceased as Jaleayah Davis.
A Facebook page named "Justice for Jaleayah" was created, featuring dozens of comments from community members.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene of the accident, on Interstate 77 near West Virginia 2 exit, around 4 a.m. Saturday.
The female was struck by a vehicle and sustained multiple traumatic injuries in the incident.
Her damaged vehicle was found against a guardrail two-tenths of a mile from her body, officials said.
Officials did not release details of the accident.
Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy said more about the incident will be revealed once the medical examiner's report is complete.
"We are hoping to get results from the medical examiner sometime this week," said Sandy.
"Our investigation continues, and if anyone has information about what this person was doing or where she was in the hours leading up to the accident, we want to hear from
them, " he said.
