The 52nd induction of the Fort Frye National Honor Society was held Nov. 23, 2011 in the high school auditorium with grades nine through 12 attending. NHS members conducted the ceremony.
Inductees were seniors, Joel Cox and Jennifer Koehnle; and juniors, Caden Brooker, Taylor Buchanan, Deidra Combs, Kyle Dew, Lexi Huck, Christina Hemsath, Courtney Huck, Micayla Hupp, Allie Lawrence, Morgan Liedtke, Meg Lowe, Victoria Mimken, Devin Thieman, Emily Tornes, and Hannah Willey
The ceremony was opened by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Ryan Bohl. Emilie Vandenberg, president of NHS welcomed students and guests and initiated the candle lighting. Four other members explained the significance of the four cornerstones of NHS: Nicole Miller (character), Samantha Hanson (scholarship), Stephanie Huck (leadership), and Shelby Newsad (service).
Inductees were introduced by Matthew Dunbar and Devan Vaughn; tapped and conducted to the stage by Austin Huck, Josh Duskey, Elaina Eakle and Shelby Heiss; and signed in and assisted in lighting their candles by Janna King, Zach Eddy and Mikayla Pruney. Each received a membership card, a certificate, a pin, and a letter of congratulations from Principal Susan Rauch.
Members recited in unison the NHS pledge, led by Jordan Lockhart. Kylie Seese read "Hold High the Torch".
After induction of the new members, Kaysi Isner introduced Mark Vonkennell, the NHS Teacher of the Year.
Parents and other family members, NHS members and Mr. VonKennell were guests of honor at a reception in the high school small gym. Refreshments were prepared and served by members of the FCCLA of Fort Frye High School.
NHS members and co-advisors Beth Brown and Maggie Webster expressed their thanks to Donna Motz, Alana Cunningham, Jane Lennox, Andy Sleek, Susan Rauch, and Trisha Delaney for their contributions to the success of the ceremony.
