Game on at the ‘Q’ for Wood County Christian

January 23, 2012
The Marietta Times

Members of the Wood County Christian boys and girls basketball teams got a once-in-a-lifetime thrill Friday by getting to play a game on an NBA?court.

To make their trip to Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland even more enjoyable were the victories each team earned against Ohio Valley Christian from the Gallipolis area.

Congratulations to the Wildcats. You were successful on the court and had fun on a memorable day.

Other area teams play in out-of-the-ordinary venues.

The girls teams from Waterford and Fort Frye high schools recently played in a prestigious weekend showcase in Berlin in northern Ohio that drew some of state's best prep players.

Area teams often schedule games at day-long hoops extravaganzas in Ohio University's Convocation Center as a way to get some experience on that court in case they return in late February or early March during a deep run into the basketball playoffs.

But Wood County Christian's road trip was unique in that they played in a huge building - 22,000 seats - where just hours later the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers hosted the Chicago Bulls. Unfortunately for Cavs fans, the Bulls rushed Cleveland for an easy win. But never mind, just getting to play at the arena had to be an experience worth plenty of memories for years to come.

We congratulate Wood County Christian's officials for making this dream trip a reality for these young basketball players.
