VINCENT - A Cave Hill Road home near Vincent was destroyed following an early morning fire Sunday.
Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks reported the home's resident, Teresa Lowe, had called in to authorities after hearing glass breaking outside her home.
Mincks said she informed authorities that she was on her way to a friend's house to spend the night. The sheriff's office dispatched a deputy to the scene to check it out about 2 a.m. Sunday.
"As he was approaching, the deputy saw an orange glow," Mincks said. "A neighbor had already seen it and called for the fire department."
The Dunham, Barlow and Little Hocking fire departments responded to the scene. The house was a total loss.
The Ohio State Fire Marshall was called in to investigate because the fire "was of an undetermined origin," Mincks said.
No one was in the house, but a dog and cat were reported killed. No other injuries were reported.
