Wanda Ruth Adams (Payne) Schmidt, 69, of Marietta left this earth to meet her Lord on Sunday (Feb. 5, 2012) at 6:55 p.m. at her home.
She was born May 1, 1942, to Herman "Howard" and Mary "Alice" Dye Adams in Marietta; and was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1960. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior on June 14, 1998.
Wanda was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church, where she had been a co-leader of the Senior Saints Group, sang in the choir, was a Seedline worker, a member of R/U, and former teacher in the pre-school S.H.Y.N. class. She was also a member of the Class of 1960 50th Reunion Committee. Prior to retirement, Wanda worked at MSI for 19 years, primarily as Human Resources Director.

On Feb. 16, 2002, she was married to Floyd F. Schmidt, who survives with sons: Tracy K. Payne (Colleen) of Belpre, Ohio, Billy K. (B.J.) Payne Jr. (Jennifer) of Orange Park, Fla.; daughter, Michelle Elise Antill (Terry) of Bellefontaine, Ohio; and grandchildren, Travis Justin Payne (Ashley) of Waterford, Ohio, Terry Glen (T.J.) Antill Jr., Danielle Elise Antill, and Tanner Lee Antill of Bellefontaine, Ohio; Tre' Austin Payne of Orange Park, Fla.; Christopher Lee Payne (Brooke) of Marietta; and great-grandson, Bricen Payne of Marietta. Extended family: stepdaughter, Cynthia Welch of Fort Worth, Texas; stepgrandchildren, Heather Fortenbury (Ryan) of Hazlett, Texas, Amber and Ashley Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Brett Smith of Irving, Texas, Avalon Osborne and Jesse Martin of Graysville, Ohio; step great-grandchildren, Madison, Malainey and Macy Fortenbury of Hazlett, Texas; sister, Betty Wheaton; sisters-in-law, Suzie Adams, Dolly Smith, Joretta Wheaton of Marietta, Mary Lou Lassiter (Bill) of Palm Beach, Fla., Hilda Mae of Macksburg; former husband, Billy K. Payne Sr., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a step daughter, Sherri Smith; grandson, Ryan Gillenwater; brother, John W. Adams; father and mother-in-law, George and Anna Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Gerald Wheaton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Feb. 8) at 11 a.m. at Souls Harbor Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Hughes officiating. Internment will be in Tunnel Cemetery.
