Hello, my name is Charles Richter and I am running for the 94th district state representative. I would like to share some of my thoughts with you about business growth and development here in southeastern Ohio.
In recent decades, we have seen a dynamic shift in our region concerning the amount of businesses moving out of our area. We have also seen many of our youths leaving the area for better jobs outside the mid-Ohio valley. As your elected representative, I feel that one of our main goals should be working to bring quality jobs with potential for advancement and growth into our region. Too many of our citizens have limited options in this respect where minimum wage is the highest salary that they will see for the majority of their careers.
Southeastern Ohio has a great deal to offer businesses and we have to capitalize on this if we are going to succeed. From our ports to our access to two-thirds of the country via the large amount of interstates that travel throughout the region, we can become a hub of financial security, growth and opportunity for new businesses and existing companies who move into the area.
With two of the finest universities in the country and a few smaller community colleges, locally we can provide a skilled and dedicated work force to these investors and businesses that will not only help them grow and succeed but will also help our region do the same. We not only need a college educated workforce, but vocational as well. We will be needing welders, truck drivers and bulldozer operators to name a few jobs to work the drilling that will be happening; instead of using out of state workers we desperately need to train our local people from our own community.
The people who live in southeastern Ohio are some of the hardest working people in the country and as your elected representative, I will make it one of my top priorities during my term in office to bring new businesses into the region and to help smaller businesses grow and develop themselves into larger companies. With our strong work ethic and abundant work force, I feel that together we can turn our region into one of the most successful in Ohio and the United States.
