Navy Seaman Apprentice Matthew E. McCutcheon, son of Cheryl A. McCutcheon of Waterford, and Gregory P. McCutcheon, of Waterford, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

McCutcheon received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

McCutcheon is a 2009 graduate of Waterford High School of Waterford.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Tiffany N. Gebhard, daughter of Beth A. Jackson of Marietta and Thomas Clay, III of Huntington, W. Va., recently deployed.

Gebhard along with fellow Saliors and Marines, assigned to the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65), departed Norfolk Naval Station for the ship's 22nd and final deployment.

Enterprise is slated to deploy to the U.S. Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation as part of an ongoing rotation of U.S. forces supporting maritime security operations in international waters around the globe.

Working with allied and partner maritime forces, the Enterprise and her accompanying strike group will focus heavily on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts designed to maintain regional stability.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Anthony J. Blevins II, son of Jeanne A. Cale of Parkersburg, and Anthony J. Blevins, of Vincent, recently deployed.

Navy Seaman Recruit Kyle W. Crislip, son of Marsha E. and Carl L. Crislip of Little Hocking, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Crislip completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
