It's back! "The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day" will be the event of April 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Location: Solvay Employees Park, between Ohio 7 and the Ohio River 3.7 miles south of the Washington Street Bridge. This is the same location as in previous years.
There are a couple of changes from the last event, though. Sorry, but no tires will be accepted this year, but there will be a paint swap area at this April 14 event.
One thing that remains the same is that no commercial, institutional, governmental, industrial, or agricultural hazardous waste will be accepted.
What can you
discard?
The following examples: Insecticides; Herbicides; Pesticides; Antifreeze; Watch Batteries; Used Oil; Rat Poison; Solvents; Transmission Fluid; Household Cleaners; Gasoline; Auto Batteries; Fertilizers; Stains; Paint; Household Batteries; Wood Strippers; Creosote; Bleach; Moth Balls; Pool Chemicals; Kerosene; Radiator Cleaners; Grease; Ammonia; Sealants; Degreasers; Cesspool Cleaners; Photo Chemicals; Brake Fluid; Engine Cleaners; Metal Polish; Paint Thinner; Fluorescent Light Tubes & Bulbs; Glue; Automotive Freon; Varnish; Lighter Fluid; Oil Filters; Diesel; Adhesives; Propane Cylinders.
It's hard to believe that products that we use in and around our homes can be considered hazardous. But, used or disposed of improperly, they can create problems for the environment. To protect our water resources, never discard items by dumping onto the ground, into waterways or into storm drains. Storm drains are a direct connection to streams and rivers. Irresponsible handling of such waste can result in contamination of local waterways and groundwater supplies, potentially harming swimmers, boaters, wildlife, aquatic life and drinking water supplies.
