The junior southpaw pitched a seven-inning complete game, fanning two and walking none.

"Evan Sawyer is consistently throwing strikes, and the defense played well behind him," said MHS co-skipper Jim Thrash, whose Tigers improved their overall record to 5-6 and ECOL mark to 1-4.

Sawyer also won a 2-1 decision in his last outing on the mound, beating Elmwood of northwest Ohio at Griffith Field at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. last Saturday.

MHS won Wednesday's game with only two hits, both by Steve Herron. The two Tiger runs were also unearned.

"We took advantage of the opportunites that Rosecran gave us," Thrash said. "And we got a little bit out of nothing."

After getting on base on catcher's error to start the second, Jon Cremeans was able to advance to third on Herron's single. With the bases loaded and one out, Joe Roberts plated the first run of the ballgame on a groundout.

Rosecrans tied the score in the bottom half of the frame when Shaun doubled and later scored on an MHS miscue.

Marietta regained the advantage in the fourth when Justin Futrell was safe on an error, and Herron beat out an infield hit. With one out, Eli Lenington drove in the go-ahead run on a groundout. "We got two runs in this game without hitting the ball out of the infield," Thrash said.

Rosecrans (3-4, 0-3) was led offensively by Sam Austen, who was 2-for-3. Keenan Dornish suffered the mound setback.

Marietta is scheduled to host PHS in a non-conference game at 5 p.m. Friday.
