The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will present the drama "Look Homeward, Angel" over the next three weekends in Marietta.
The show will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, May 4, 5, 11 and 12 and at 3 p.m. May 6 at the Players Theatre, 229 Putnam St. in Marietta.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for youth. They are available at midohiovalleyplayers.org and at Marty's Print Shop on Third Street in Marietta.
In addition to the regular performances, the MOVP will also be presenting a matinee performance for high school students from Wood and Washington counties at 9:30 a.m. May 4.
Written by Ketti Frings and based on the Thomas Wolfe novel, "Look Homeward, Angel" explores the magic in everyday life. It is the story of an early 20th Century North Carolina family as told through the eyes of the youngest son, Eugene Gant.
The Gants, despite eccentricities stemming from both sides of the family, are not extraordinary. But through the eyes of Wolfe, their lives sparkle with joy and tragedy in this true classic of American theater. The book has been described as a thinly disguised autobiography of Wolfe himself, in the role of Eugene Gant.
"Look Homeward, Angel" traces Eugene's coming of age in the small town of Altamont, N.C. Eliza, his mother, is a woman who likes to make "deals"-in business and with people. With the proverbial iron hand in the velvet glove and almost equal concern, she runs Dixieland, her seedy boarding house, an alcoholic husband, a daughter and two sons.
The play adaption by Frings won the 1958 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and it was also nominated for several Tony Awards.
The MOVP production is directed by Geoffrey Coward. The cast features:
