Fraternity shows it’s serious about rules of conduct

May 1, 2012
The Marietta Times

Good for Beta Theta Pi, a college fraternity that has reminded some of its Ohio members forcefully that it is serious about standards of conduct.

National officials of the fraternity suspended its Ohio State University chapter this month, because of what the organization views as a pattern of unacceptable behavior. One concern is allegations of hazing at the OSU chapter.

Last year, Beta Theta Pi shut down its chapter at Ohio University because of repeated alcohol violations there.

Too often, fraternities do not monitor their campus chapters to ensure misconduct is not being tolerated, even encouraged. Sometimes, with a wink and a nod, outrageous activities are simply ignored.

Beta Theta Pi is to be commended for making it clear its code of conduct is to be lived by, not merely tacked up on the wall.
