Mildred Marie (Hinterer) Poling, 84, of Marietta died at her home on Saturday (May 26, 2012).

She was born in Doddridge County near New Milton, W.Va, on May 22, 1928, the daughter of Albert Edward and Laura Mildred Gray Hinterer.

She graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1946, and then attended Salem College. She was employed by Monongahela Power Company working in West Union and Buckhannon offices. After moving to Marietta, she worked in the accounting office of Wilbur D. Jones Jr.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where she served as president of the church council and was active in the church women's group. She was also a member of the Betsey Mills Girls Council Board and was a den mother for Boy Scout Troop 209 for several years. She enjoyed playing bridge, quilting and line dancing.

She researched and had a genealogy booklet printed in 1994 about the Hinterer family. Her great-grandfather, Mathias Hinterer and his brother, Leopold, emigrated to America in 1866 from Austria and settled in the St. Clara community in Doddridge County.

On March 24, 1951, she married John A. Poling in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Clarksburg, W.Va. He survives with one daughter, Barbara Gail Peterson (Lee) of Marietta; and two sons, Alan John Poling (Mary) of Houston, Texas, and David Kenneth Poling (Alice) of Stonewood, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Meglio Brodie (Scott) of Cameron, N.C., and Matthew Brady Meglio (Robin) of Mason, Ohio; one stepgranddaughter, Kim Peterson Lambert of Columbus, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Taylor Brodie, Michael Scott Brodie Jr., Elijah Matthew Meglio and Grant Brady Meglio; one great-stepgrandson, Damien Duvelius; two sisters, Jean Ruckman of St. Marys, W.Va., and Arlene Pope (Robert) of Camden, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Dolores Hinterer Hoover of New Milton, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Howard Charles Hinterer.

The family wants to give a special thanks to her caregivers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (May 29, 2012) at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Steve Mahaffey officiating. Friends may call at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel today (May 28, 2012) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or the Cancer Society.
