Jolanda (Dutton) Karcher 77, of East Bend, N.C., also known as "Jody" and "Aunt Jo," passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Monday (June 25, 2012) with two of her daughters, Karen and Lori, by her side.
Jody was born in Marietta on Aug. 4, 1934, to the late Carl O. and Evelyn "Louise" Knox Dutton. Jody graduated from Marietta High School and later went to work at Dravo Corp., where she met and married Harry O. Karcher Sr. They later divorced, but remained close friends over the years.
Three daughters survive this marriage, Karen Prunty (Jeff) of Marietta, Melissa Bishop (Ron) of Counce, Tenn., and Lori Taylor (Fleet) of East Bend, N.C.; two stepchildren, Harry O. Karcher Jr. (Sharon) of Marietta, Cynthia French (Bill) of Monroe, N.C., whom she loved and raised as her own.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ben Prunty (Sarai) of Virginia Beach, Va., Corry and Adam Prunty (Gina), Keith Bishop, all of Marietta, Lisa McCarthy (Jason) of Round Rock, Texas, and Erica (Rex), Brittany and Taylor Smith, all of East Bend, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren, Wendy Ketelson (Brian), Stacy Miller (Bill), Erin Meeks (Todd), all of Marietta, Jennifer Jupp (Larry) of Columbus, Ohio, Matthew Rumbold of Charleston, S.C., and Stephan Rumbold (Amy) of Monroe, N.C.; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Richard Dutton (Betty); sister, Donna Fernandez; a half brother, Jeff Dutton; and many special nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to her parents and ex-husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carla Sample; and a great-grandson, Carter Emanuel Smith.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday (June 30, 2012) at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, Ohio. Burial to follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
