Alice Edith Kniffin, 81 of Brownrigg Road, Waterford, died Tuesday (July 3, 2012) at her home.
She was born Sept. 25, 1930 in Union Village, Vt. She was raised by her adoptive parents, Carrie and Walter Rowell. She attended the Palmer United Methodist Church and was a member of the Palmer Square Willing Workers.
She knit her way through life and knitted her family together. She won many prizes for her knitting over the years. She was a meticulous housekeeper and was nicknamed Mrs. Clean by her children. She loved life and her family and will be sorely missed.
She was married Sept. 1, 1974 to Philip Kniffin who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Carolyn Smith, William Handlowich and Tami Coe of Connecticut and Tara Polan and Todd Kniffin of Waterford; 5 step children, Wayne Kniffin, Wanda Needham and Brenda Kniffin of Vermont and Philip Kniffin Jr. and Brian Kniffin of Connecticut; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Vera of Vermont.
She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, brother, Ward Rowell, stepson, Bernard Kniffin and 15 other brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with the Rev. Helen Kline officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery.
