Damon R. Bentley, 86, of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday (July 4, 2012) at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born April 7, 1926, in Athens County, son of the late Sanford and Ella Mingus Bentley. Damon was married to the late Ruth Ann Fouty Bentley.
He retired from General Telephone in Athens and was the Charter President of the Chauncey Dover Lions Club. Damon was a former Dover Township Trustee, a former member of Chauncey Village Council, was an avid hunter and gardener and along with his brothers, he raised and sold strawberries.
Damon is survived by his sons, Roger (Penny) Bentley of Hebron and Gary (Lynda) Bentley of Athens; daughters, Shirley (Roger) Blevins of Chauncey and Judy (Roy) Ollom of Vincent, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Sheri Bentley of Pataskala; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Stanley of Canal Winchester.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Greg Bentley; brothers, Joseph, Robert and Gerald Bentley; and sisters, Paulene Bullock and Rosie Turrill.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2012, in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
