"Touched By Conflict: Southeastern Ohio & the Civil War" opens at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta. As part of the multi-year sesquicentennial observance of the momentous events surrounding the war, the museum will have the exhibition for three years.
Using southeastern Ohio as a model, exhibit themes would explore events in the state leading to the conflict, local support of the war effort, recruitment, service in various campaigns and the private lives of both officers and private soldiers as they performed in campaigns in various armies.
Regular admission rates apply, which are $7 for adults and $4 for students. Admission is free for Friends of the Museum members.
All Washington County Public Library locations are open regular hours on Friday and Saturday. Those who are still without electricity, or just without air conditioning in general are welcome to use their local library as respite from the heat. The July regular Frontier Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Frontier High School.
A GOP headquarters opening featuring Treasurer Josh Mandel, a candidate for U.S. Senate, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at 119 Greene St., Marietta. Light refreshments will be served courtesy of the Washington County Republican Women's Club. Local candidates will also be on hand, including Ohio Rep. Andy Thompson, candidate for State Representative 95th District; Charles Richter, candidate for State Representative 94th District; Shane Thompson, candidate for State Senate 30th District; Sheriff Larry Mincks, candidate for re-election; David White, candidate for County Commissioner; Ron Feathers, candidate for County Commissioner; Mark Kerenyi, candidate for Common Pleas Court Judge; Roger Wright, candidate for County Engineer.
