After being injured in a boat explosion, a Williamstown man was listed in serious condition at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. The boat caught fire at a private dock. Authorities suspect a malfunction of the pump used to remove water from the boat. The boat sank a few hours after the fire started.
A fundraising campaign for lights at Marietta College's Pioneer Park will start this fall. The campaign, headed by Marietta College and the World Series Committee, takes on the task of keeping the NCAA Division III World Series in Marietta.
The levee fountain at the corner of Front and Ohio streets received a thorough cleaning from some pranksters. Someone dumped soap into it, ensuring that the water frothed uncontrollably. Many said that the fountain was the world's largest dishwasher and others said that the Tide Monster had visited.
Marietta Mayor Nancy Hollister crowned Laurene Pottmeyer "bicentennial first lady." Duties of the first lady include speaking in front of classes, receptions and organizations about the history of the Northwest Territory.
