Robert W. Murphy, 85, of Reno, Ohio, passed away Monday (July 9, 2012) at his residence.
He was born Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1926, in Rome, N.Y., to the late Clarence and Dorothea Murphy. Robert graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry. He worked as a chemical engineer for Union Carbide silicon division in Sistersville, W.Va., Antox Chemical Co. in New Cumberland, W.Va., and later retiring from American Cyanimid. Robert served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a medic.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Floyd Murphy of Reno; sons, Robert W. Murphy Jr. (Pamela) of Columbus, Ohio, Paul Murphy of Lapote, Texas, Barry Murphy (Marlene) of Marietta; grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Nick, and Andrew Murphy and Erin Wise; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Adrienne and Owen Wise; sisters, Ann Hall of Rome, N.Y., and Marge Harris (Robert) of Venice, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Beach Murphy (June 1996); and a brother, Donald Murphy (1998).
