Harold Courtney Jones, 91, of Parkersburg, died July 13, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
Mr. Jones was born Feb. 18, 1921, at Winchester, Va., a son of the late Harold Calvin and Besse Perry Jones.
He attended Mississippi State College and served in the U.S. Army Air Force where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant and served as a pilot during World War II. He retired as purchasing agent at the former American Cyanamid, Willow Island Plant.
He was initiated into Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 3 on Sept. 16, 1946; was raised to Master Mason on March 15, 1947. He was elected Worshipful Master from 1956 to 1957, prior to that he had served as Junior Deacon, Senior Deacon, Junior and Senior Warden. He was elected Most Excellent High Priest of Jerusalem Chapter No. 3 in 1957, prior to that he had served as Excellent King, Excellent Scribe, Principal Sojourner, Royal Arch Captain, Second Veil and treasurer for many years. He became a member of Calvary Commandery No. 3 in 1952, where he served as Eminent Commander, Generalissimo, Senior and Junior Warden, Standard Bearer, Sword Bearer and was Prelate for many years. He served as Grand Commander from 1977 to 1978. Prior to that he had served as Deputy Grand Commander, Grand Generalissimo, Grand Captain General and Grand Recorder. He was a member of the York Rite where he had serves as Governor from 1981 to 1982, prior to that he had served as Deputy Governor and Chancellor. In 1978, he was conferred in Parkersburg by Wheeling Valley Consistory, where he served as secretary for many years. He was a member of Nemesis Temple of The Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 14 where he had served as Past Worthy Patron. Other Masonic Degrees and Orders Courtney had received include Red Cross of Constantine, Sovereign; Order of High Priesthood, Chaplain, Allied Masonic Degrees, Secretary, Holy Royal Arch K.T. Priests, Past Excellent Chief, Knights of the York Cross of Honour and Past Prior Mt. State No. 55, Registrar Emeritus.
He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkersburg.
Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Hensley of Reedville, Va., and Caroline Lee Patterson of Marietta; four grandchildren, LeighAnn Patterson, Katherine Knight, David Knight and Courtney Knight; three great-grandchildren, Madison Renee Knight, Isaac Channell and Tallyn Arbogast.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Margie" Clawson Jones in 1997.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg with Dr. Kurt Busiek, Dr. William Thomas and Pastor David Carpenter officiating. Knights Templar Escort, Masonic graveside services and interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.
