Mary Ann VanWey

Mary Ann (Miller) VanWey, 78, passed away, at 10:55 p.m. (July 13, 2012) at the Inn of Marietta, where she resided.

She was born March 2, 1934, at Raven Rock, W.Va., the youngest daughter of the late Okey Sandford and Ora Belle (Barnhart) Miller. Mary Ann had made her home in Pleasants County, W.Va. and Newport, Ohio. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School Class of 1953. While in school Mary Ann was active in the Marching Band, GAA Club, and the Annual Singing Christmas Tree. She enjoyed her classmates and looked forward to the Annual Alumni parties in later years. Mary Ann took great pride in being a graduate of St. Marys High School. When Mary Ann's children were young, she was an active volunteer with the Newport PTA, a member of the Home Room Mother's Club. She also coached the Newport Girls Softball Team. She was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, Newport, Ohio.

Mary Ann is survived by her sons, David A. (Kim) VanWey Jr., Donovon J. VanWey, Daniel L. (Tina) VanWey, and their father David A. VanWey, Sr., and grandson Joel Parker VanWey all of Newport, Ohio.

In March of 1996, Mary Ann met Herman Adams and they have been friends and companions since. Over the years they have enjoyed spending time together, traveling and being with their children. Herman's children Susie, Debbie, Terri, Bonnie, Patty, Bob, and Bill, welcomed Mary Ann into their family along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special friend of the family, Karen Riggs of Marietta was very dear to her. Mary Ann referred to Karen, "as the daughter she never had."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Willard, Ralph, Avery; and sisters, Violet Kernen, Lora Shingleton, and Lucille Hall.

Services will be held Tuesday (July 17, 2012) at 11 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., with Pastor Byron Bufkin officiating. Interment will be in the Friendly Cemetery, Friendly, W.Va..
