Linda L. Wootton
Linda Louise Wootton passed away on Saturday (July 21, 2012) on her 64th birthday after a courageous battle with ALS.
Linda is survived by her husband and best friend of 44 years, Michael Wootton; her brother, Steven Dierks of Mountain View, Calif.; and her sisters-in-law, Rita Rodd of Danville, Calif. and Shirin Silverstein of San Diego, Calif. Although Linda did not have children of her own, she was known as Mom to Steve and Mara Boord and to Stacie and Kevin Kirsch and as Grandma to Regan, Diego, Jadyn, and Maggie Boord, all of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Born July 21, 1948, in Worthington, Minn., Linda was the daughter of the late Melvin and Rose Dierks. She is a graduate of Newark High School in Newark, Calif., and at 17 years old, was named Miss Newark.
Linda's family and friends remembers her as a guardian angel on earth. Linda devoted her life and career to selflessly providing care and protection to her loved ones, community and clients.
Linda was a philanthropist and actively involved in the community. She held several leadership positions with the American Red Cross, including serving as chairman of the local chapter in Washington County, Ohio. Linda was active with the Women in Philanthropy-Hilton Head Chapter and the American Association of University Women's Forum. Linda was also past President and member of the Unity Church of Hilton Head.
Linda had a distinguished career in finance and retired as vice president and trust officer for Wachovia Bank of South Carolina, where she had worked in the Greenville, Spartanburg, and Hilton Head offices. Prior to Wachovia, Linda was a vice president and trust investment officer for Peoples Banking and Trust of Ohio.
Linda earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and her Masters of Business Administration from Ohio University. She was a graduate of the Ohio Bankers Association Advanced Trust School, earned the professional designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and received both a Series 7 Securities License and SC Insurance Life Insurance license.
Linda's many professional affiliations included the Investment Committee of the OHIO Bankers Association Trust Division, the Economic Round Table of the Ohio Valley, Spartanburg Estate Planning Council, and Hilton Head Council of Estate and Financial Advisors. Linda also served as an adjunct professor of finance at Ohio University and Marietta College.
Linda was known as a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling the world. She is remembered as a caring and generous soul that touched many hearts.
