Columbia College Chicago

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Library at Columbia College Chicago, have awarded Scarlet Sheppard of Parkersburg first place in its 2011-2012 Undergraduate Honors Research Program.

Sheppard's paper, "The Actor's Emotional Mind," was selected unanimously by a 5-person faculty board from the 17 submissions. Among other things, the panel said: "In skillfully analyzing Konstantin Stanislavski's 'Method through the lens of Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Management,' your writing made clear the connections between the science of psychology and the creative process of acting."

In addition to a cash award, her paper will be published on the Columbia College Chicago website. Sheppard, who will be a junior in the Honors Program at Columbia College this fall, is a 2009 graduate of Parkersburg High School and is the daughter of Roger and Susan Sheppard of Parkersburg.

Ohio University

ATHENS - Dustin Huck, of Marietta, graduated from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology and Management on June 9 2012.

His parents are Pat and Teresa Huck. Grandparents are Robert and Phyllis Heiss, Ellen Heiss, both of Marietta, and Patricia Huck of Lowell.

Bethel University

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Christopher Dent of Marietta graduated from Bethel University, St. Paul, following the spring 2012 semester. Dent earned a bachelor of science in exercise science. He is the son of Claire and Tim Dent from Marietta.

Mercyhurst University

ERIE, Pa. - Christopher Clegg, of Marietta, was a member of the Class of 2012 and received a degree at the 84th Commencement of Mercyhurst University on May 20.

Clegg graduated with a/an BA degree in Management.

Mercyhurst University President Dr. Thomas J. Gamble presented diplomas during the 2 p.m. ceremony at the Bayfront Convention Center in downtown Erie.

University of Mount Union

ALLIANCE - Two local students have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2012 semester at the University of Mount Union:

Kathryn Starr is a senior early childhood education major of Marietta. Kathryn is a graduate of Marietta Senior High School.

Alexandra Turner is a graduate student in the physician assistant program of Woodsfield, Ohio. Alexandra is a graduate of Monroe Central High School.

To be eligible for dean's list, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or better with no grade below a B.
