The Marietta Kiwanis Club's reputation for being a male-only club was changed by Mayor Nancy Hollister. She is the Club's first and only female member.

Marietta Post 64 was eliminated from the American Legion baseball tournament. Cincinnati Budde won the tournament

50 years ago

The final summer concert of the band will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Muskingum Park. The concert will be free to the public.

The fire department put out a fire on the railroad bridge at about 10:30 a.m. Fire Chief Drennen said the fire was caused by a cigarette between the boards.

75 years ago

The new Union Furniture Store opened on Second Street. Free gifts were given to shoppers, and many deals were given as grand opening specials.

The Sistersville, W. Va., Review has ceased to be a daily newspaper.

100 years ago

Shopping trains that have stopped in Marietta twice a week by the M.C. & C. Railroad will be discontinued.

Miss Bronson, a noted social worker and educator, will deliver an address opposing woman's suffrage at the Washington County Courthouse.
