Elizabeth "Bette" Jean O'Leary of Deltona, Fla. and Pennsboro, W.Va., retiree from Votran public transit system, passed Thursday (Aug. 9, 2012) peacefully, with family at her side. Bette was born in Yonkers, N.Y., moved to Deltona, Fla. in 1987 and spent some time in Pennsboro, W.Va.
Survivors include: sons, Glen O'Leary of Cincinnati, Ohio; Juston O'Leary, Philadelphia, Pa.; Christopher O'Leary, DeLand, Fla.; daughter, Elizabeth O'Leary, Deltona, Fla.; two brothers, Carl Brooks and Eddie Brooks, Florida.; two grandchildren, Logan O'Leary, Florida. and Courteney O'Leary, Rhode Island.; one great-grandchild, Brooklynn Jade Rondeau, Rhode Island.
Bette graduated from Blessed Sacrament Academy in New York. She then furthered her education at Monroe Business School. Bette was an exceptional cook/baker with an entrepreneurial spirit who owned and operated her own deli in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. for many years before moving to Florida in 1987.
She loved animals, especially boxer dogs. Hobbies that she enjoyed included painting, gardening, dancing, bowling, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, movie watching, birding, stained glass projects, canning. She loved to do "coffee talk" and could do so for hours, discussing life, love, old family stories, politics, current events, etc. A pot of coffee was just a phone call away.
The O'Leary family would like to send heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abhyankar, Dr. Zacharias, Dr. Mella, Dr. Casto, Robyn Knaus, RN, FNP-BC, Dr. Behnke, Patti Golden, LCSW, Sue McDonald, RN Clinical Nurse Manager, the nursing, respiratory therapy staff and all of those involved with Bette's care at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
