Washington County Garden Club
The Washington County Garden Club held its meeting on July 27 at the American Red Cross building on Fourth Street in Marietta. The meeting opened with the treasurer's report and the reading of the previous meetings minutes.
Discussion began on the upcoming Washington County Fair Flower Show, held Sept, 1 to 4 in Marietta. After distributing the Flower Show schedule of events, hostess scheduling was determined, as well as set up for the show. It was also decided that the Barlow Blue Bells and Muskingum Garden Clubs would be installing the display gardens, and that the Little Hocking Club would be spearheading the educational exhibit. A "People's Choice" ballot box will be present at the show, so that fairgoers can vote for their favorite arrangement. Flower Show schedules can be obtained online at www.washcountyfair.org or by contacting the fair board at (740) 373-1347. Anyone wanting to submit entries to the flower show at the fair needs to follow the schedule rules and enter using their ticket number, or under a garden club ticket.
The Fall Regional meeting will be held Oct. 27 at the Rockland United Methodist Church in Belpre. The morning program will be Spontaneous Flower Arranging, while the afternoon program features John Sims delivering a presentation on the techniques of preparing the garden for winter. The meeting concluded with a potluck lunch.
The next county meeting is scheduled to take place March 8, 2013.
