25 years ago

A special prosecutor's investigation cleared Judge Hallock of any wrongdoing in using a Marietta Municipal Court employee for his 1986 political campaign on city time.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio plans to impose stiffer penalties against safety violations of transporters of hazardous waste. This legislation was prompted by a railroad chemical explosion in Miamisburg, Ohio that forced the evacuation of 30,000 people and cost nearly $320,000 in damage.

50 years ago

Tree removal bids will be accepted until Aug. 30. These bids call for the removal of around 200 trees.

Vicky Thompson, Belpre's newly elected "Miss Red Feather," will lead the Belpre band in the parade Aug. 16. The parade will kick off the Belpre Homecoming festivities.

100 years ago

Soldiers from the 7th O.N.G. will camp for a week at the fairgrounds. They are set to arrive Aug. 18.

M.M. Rose, president of the Board of Trade, has filed papers for an "experiment farm." The issue will be decided by voters in November.
