Ida Rohrer, 74 of Heath, was born in Riffle, W.Va. on Dec, 13, 1937, to the late Arlos Jay and Ida Avis (Lewis) McElwain. She passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center on Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2012).
Ida graduated from Marietta High School in 1955 and attended Bliss Business College. Prior to retirement, she worked for Diebold Incorporated for over 20 years. She also worked for the Longaberger Company for seven years and Bon Worth for three years.
Ida was a person devoted to Lionism, with over 46 years of service, having perfect attendance for 29 years. She truly enjoyed helping the community and doing The Lions International work. One of the highest awards bestowed to a Lion, is the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, which was presented to Ida in 1999 for her dedicated and exemplary service.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Terry Lee and Krista Rohrer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; granddaughter and fiance, Tricia Rohrer and Ian Cole of Fort Wayne; grandson, Brady Rohrer of Fort Wayne; brother, Carl McElwain of Newark; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service,will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, Ohio on Friday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m., where a Lions Service will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. Friends may also call on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
