Hunter Burl Vannoy, 83, of Belpre, Ohio died on Tuesday (Aug. 14) at the Arbors of Marietta. He was born Oct. 25, 1928, on Vannoy Ridge in Gilmer County, W.Va. to the late Columbus Boyd Vannoy and Elizabeth Ann Vannoy.
Hunter was a member of Mullen Memorial Baptist Church for 69 years. He served as a Deacon and on the board of trustees. He was a graduate of Belpre High School, class of 1947 and retired as an electrician from I.B.E.W #425 based out of Fairmont, W.Va.. He was a member of the Belpre Masonic Lodge #609 for 42 years and served as Tiler for 12 years. He was also a member of the Eastern Star in Belpre.
He is survived by four children: James (Jane) Vannoy, Sharon Vannoy, Edith (Tom) Blake and Kendall (Donna) Vannoy; eight grandchildren, Gretchen (Shane) Chute, Jamie Vannoy, Jason (Mandy) Vannoy, Steven, Scott, and Stanley Blake and Serita and Aaron Vannoy; four great-grandchildren, Korben Jones, Bailey and Gillian Chute, and Austin Vannoy; and one sister in law, Eleanor (Bob) Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Vannoy; and two sisters, Ermal Parks and Gladys Farley.
The funeral service will be Saturday (Aug. 18) at 1 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Pastor Kent Lowther officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday (Aug. 17) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will conclude visitation on Friday at 8 p.m.
