50 years ago

Police warned two young boys to stay off of the roof of the Lambda Chi house after receiving a report that they were playing on it.

The Marietta Jaycees planned a picnic for underprivileged children. The picnic will be held Aug. 22 at Indian Rock Park.

75 years ago

Two boys had a close call after the raft they were floating on went over the dam in the Muskingum River, by the post office. One boy was able to make it to shore, the other caught a snag lodged on the dam and was able to hold on until firemen rescued him.

Dave Bashline, an Akron Zeppelin Rifle Club sharpshooter, won the Fort Harmar Rifle Club tournament with a two-day score of 2,756.

100 years ago

The body of a 6-month-old child was found floating in the Ohio River. Foul play was suspected.

Director of Public Service Melsenhelder paid many of the city's bills. The Director of Public Safety also approved bills for firefighters and police.
