The fireworks at the Parkersburg Homecoming were canceled after an explosion during the pyrotechnics injured four people.

Washington County led the state in oil and gas drilling activity during the first half of the year. Of the 56 holes drilled, eight produced gas, 28 produced oil and 17 were dry.
